by John Benson, Cleveland Plain Dealer
Switched, hard-rock band
Hometown: Strongsville.
Years performing: 10.
Day gig: full-time musicians/producer.
It wasn't that long ago that Northeast Ohio rock act Switched appeared ready for big things. Its 2001 Immortal/Virgin Records debut "Subject to Change" led to a 2002 OzzFest slot, as well as national tours with Sevendust, Fear Factory and Machine Head. But fate had other ideas; the band took a hiatus as frontman Ben Schigel produced albums for Chimaira, Allele, Breaking Benjamin and Drowning Pool out of his Strongsville recording studio, Spider Studios. Three years later, Switched is back, sort of. It's finally releasing "Ghosts in the Machine," which was recorded a few years ago, and has the honor of performing the Odeon Concert Club's last show. The double disc contains new material, as well as B-sides, rarities and live tracks. While the band plans a three-week tour in April, its future remains uncertain. "We have no clue," Schigel said. "We're going to take it as it comes. Right now we're just a bunch of dudes getting together to make good music, I guess. We're beer-drinking [expletive] idiots who just like to rock." This night of nostalgia begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Odeon, 1295 Old River Road, Cleveland. Tickets are $12. Call 216-574-2525.
