Rikets - Anything For The Devil

Instead of catchy hooks Rikets has decided they will instead blow you down with sheer brutality. Their new EP Anything For The Devil is a 20-minute wrestling match with a bear after you stole his honey. Sure there are moments of calm or at least less volume, but sometimes even a whisper can kill. Guitars are remorseless, drums are bloody knuckles and Scott Rose’s vocals cut with the tenderness of a pissed off butcher. the “heaviest” band out there, but Rikets mixes dark electronics, subtle backing vocals and bleed a serial killer’s passion with each note. There is no doubt these 5 tracks will make for intense pits at every show Rikets performs. “Blister” starts as a quiet build up and explodes with a Slipknot-esque tone. This is probably the most memorable song on the disc and never lets the energy up for a moment.

When Scott Rose sings melodically it sounds much like Ben Schigel (Switched, Omniark), who produced the disc. It makes sense, then, that the vocals sound natural with the punishing guitars from Bradley Kochmit who formerly shared the stage with Schigel in the band Sw1tched. While the vocals fall into nu-metal territory the music is anything but. Rikets energy seems to flow from the same needles used by Machinehead, Marilyn Manson and maybe even the over the top presence of Motley Crew.

Kochmit seems to have found the perfect group to express his true angst and let loose all the fury he can muster. Rikets definitely tap into the dark/gothic side with their image, sound, and overall aura.

“Useless”, a gut-wrenching track, is a welcome kick to the teeth from a crowd surfer, filling you up with sweet aggression and warm blood. Everyone can relate to being dicked over, stolen from, or just being drained by everyday life so when Scott Rose yells “Always taking, everything away from me, you’re so useless” it hits home.

Rikets new EP Anything For The Devil is an all out bar brawl, and once you press play no one walks out unscathed.
