Formed in 2003 by Chimaira guitarist/co-founder Jason Hager after he departed the increasingly successful extreme-metal band, Shenoah, which also includes ex-members of Ringworm, Erase the Grey and Mad at Gravity, takes a more melodic, radio-friendly tack. The five songs on this EP are stuffed with lush, swelling melodies bolstered by heavy guitars and rhythm section and embellished with strategic sound bites and a bit of keyboard. Almost Goth-like lyrics in songs like “Age of the White Dove” and “Ashes to Ashes” add to the darkly dreamy feel that pervades most of this disc, occasionally spelled by echoes from some of the band members' harder-core pasts. Released on Los Angeles-based Corporate Punishment records at the same time as fellow Clevelanders Rikets' EP, Shenoah takes a backseat simply because it's not active right now (There's disagreement on whether the band's broken up).
