Ghosts in the Machine Review
by Troy Doebbler, Edge Magazine
Coming at you with a double fisted, double disc set,
Switched hits you like a pretty two ton train. With their
heavy brand of melodic Metal, Switched was one of those
bands that virtually just came, destroyed, and then
disappeared. So what happened you ask? Corporate
America and busy downtime is the answer to that. While
preparing and recording demo’s for their second release on Immortal/Virgin Records
the Ohio band decided that maybe the label was not all that it was cracked up to be and
began the harsh task of removing themselves from that situation, eventually leading the
band to indefinite hiatus. In that time period bassist Corey Lowery formed Dark New
Day, Chad Szeliga picked up with Breaking Benjamin, Brad Kochmit started Tinjen, and
vocalist Ben Schigel became a successful producer working with bands like Chimaira
and Breaking Point. And that leads us to this point in time, “Ghosts in the Machine” is a
raw and under-produced collection of the demos for the songs that were going to be on
the second release, but it doesn’t stop there. Also on here you selected other demos,
some live songs, and a cool ass cover of “She Blinded me with Science”. This is a solid
release whether you are familiar with the band or not, so give it a listen and see what
you think.
