Launching Rikets
by DX Ferris, Cleveland Scene
Rikets, a new metal supergroup made up of former members of Switched, the Bedroom All-Stars, and Erase the Grey, has recorded an EP and plans to play its debut concert in late summer or early fall.
"We've been practicing and writing for eight months," says singer Scott Rose, Erase the Grey's deep-voiced background vocalist, programmer, and keyboardist, who also played in the Bedroom All-Stars. "The comparison we get from a lot of people is that it sounds like a combination of old Machine Head, Vision of Disorder, and Marilyn Manson."
The group also features Switched guitarist Bradley Kochmit and drummer Jason French, along with bassist Josh Hansen , singer Matt Haze, and guitarist Ken Obloy (formerly of Puppet).
The EP, tentatively titled The Killing of Art, was produced by Clevo metal guru Ben Schigel and mixed in Los Angeles by Logan Mader of Stereoblack (and formerly of Machine Head and Soulfly). Its release is slated for winter; streaming audio and mp3s are now available at www.Rikets.com.
Already faced with two contract offers, Rose hopes that Rikets can avoid the missteps made by his former band, which signed a deal with Universal Records in 2002, but was dumped before recording its full-length debut.
"With Erase the Grey, we jumped into the deal way too quickly," says Rose. "Now we've learned a little more. We're trying to build everything up slowly."
